Alcohol often plays a big role in work-related events. Whether it’s team bonding, celebrating a big win, Friday drinks, or networking, alcohol is often in the mix. This can make people who don’t drink – or don’t want to drink - feel left out or uncomfortable.
When work gets stressful, it's tempting to turn to alcohol to cope, but this soon leads to daily drinking and those units stacking up across the week. Drink-free days are critical to helping our body take a break from the toxic effects of alcohol.
A drink might seem like it’ll help. But using alcohol to deal with stress or anxiety can actually make things worse, leaving us feeling tired, and more likely to make mistakes. It can also hurt our relationships with colleagues, friends, and family.
Big life changes—like losing or changing job or retiring- can also affect how much we drink. These changes can make us feel lonely, bored, or left out, and looking for relief in a bottle.
