The end-of-life charity, Marie Curie, is partnering with the North Bournemouth Primary Care Network to enhance care within GP practices.
The initiative aims to help and support patients with any terminal illness feel better prepared and supported throughout their care journey – a recent poll revealed that one in three people have not given it any thought, with most not planning until their health significantly deteriorates or they receive a terminal diagnosis. As part of the initiative, patients will be assisted in drafting an advance care plan to ensure their specific needs are met.
North Bournemouth Primary Care Network added, “we are very proud to be working with Marie Curie on this initiative to support those coming towards the end of their lives”.
Alongside this launch, the Marie Curie Companions service provides volunteers who offer support and a reassuring presence to communities living with an illness they are likely to die from.
